Dasi-Ziyad Family Institute

Once we were hosting several friends for dinner.  Since they were all married, we asked, “what would each of you say is the reason you have such lasting, satisfying marriages?”  Almost to a person, each replied that friendship was the key.  Romance and passion are generally very attractive in the beginning, but like water in the ocean tides, surely will  ebb and flow.  Real friendship, dependable, accepting, trusting, supportive, affectionate, and nonjudgmental, will take you through the good times and the bad.  As marriage educators who have provided direct relationship skill-building services to many, many couples, we have found that being “best friends” is generally an indication that spouses will endure and thrive in a healthy relationship.

Tip:   Marry someone who is also a friend and you will have a much greater possibility of having a satisfying marriage.

Co-directors Krsnanandini D. Dasi and Tariq S. Ziyad are guest lecturers at the Ward 20 community meeting on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. They will speak about the urgency to strengthen and support marriage in our society. The public is invited to participate in this important discussion.

Tariq S. Ziyad and Krsnanandini D. Dasi, co-directors of the Dasi-Ziyad Family Institute, will be featured speakers at a panel discussion about interracial and intercultural relationships on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m at Wooster College, 1189 Beall Avenue, Wooster, OH 44691.  The forum will be held at the Lowry Center, the main student building on campus.  The public is invited to participate in this exciting discussion hosted by the Men of Harambee.
